A complete overhaul of a steep, overgrown garden, reshaped to create two practical lawn levels and a much more usable outdoor space.
THE BRIEFMake the garden usable again
The customer wanted a total garden overhaul. The existing space was sloping and overgrown, leaving relatively little of the garden easy to use.
The priority was to create practical, level areas while giving the garden a much stronger overall structure.

PROJECT AT A GLANCEA garden reshaped around level, structure and water

THE SOLUTIONTwo level lawns connected by a curved retaining wall
A curved wall was constructed through the middle of the garden to manage approximately half a metre of level change, allowing two flatter lawn areas to be created.
Purbeck stone and limestone bullnose coping were used to give the wall a strong natural finish, and an Aquascape pond system was added as a focal point.
KEY FEATURESKey features of the transformation
A relatively simple set of strong interventions changed the way the whole garden could be used.
THE CHALLENGEWorking with a sloping, overgrown site
The original slope limited how much of the garden could be comfortably used.
The main challenge was to manage the change in level without making the finished garden feel over-engineered.

THE RESULTA structured garden with much more usable space
The new levels make the garden easier to use while the curved stone wall gives the landscape a clear visual structure.
The pond adds movement and interest, helping the completed garden feel designed rather than simply levelled.
